For millions of people, acne scars can be a long lasting source of embarrassment and frustration. The truth is that acne scars can be some of the most difficult of all scars to treat, and there is no one perfect solution that can treat all acne scars. I have found that a combination of modalities perfumed over multiple treatment sessions tends to give the best result. The CROSS treatment is an especially important component of my treatment line.
WHAT IS THE CROSS TREATMENT?
CROSS stands for chemical reconstruction of skin scars. This involves placing very small amounts of highly concentrated acid directly onto the scar. The CROSS treatment essentially works by causing damage to the scar itself and the tissue that tethers the area down, and then inducing new collagen formation so the scar will heal itself.
This technique can be performed on all skin types, including African Americans, though some darker patients may need to use a bleaching cream before and after the procedure to prevent darkening of the treated areas.
HOW LONG DOES TREATMENT TAKE?
CROSS is performed in the office in about 30 minutes. The face is anesthetized prior to treatment to minimize discomfort. Afterword, the face is kept clean and Vaseline is placed onto the treated areas to keep them hydrated. Results are seen initially at about 6 weeks and a more final result by 6 months.
