Most people think they’re safe from wrinkles until they reach their 30s. However, for many people, facial wrinkling begins as early as their 20s. The first to appear are dynamic wrinkles, caused by the repetitive movement of your facial muscles. In this case, injectables may be used to reduce movement and restore facial smoothness.
BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are two common injectables to restore youthfulness in your face. With their ability to offer facial lifting and improvement by up to 58.66 percent, these injectables can offer natural results without necessarily filling your skin. In this blog, you will learn more about BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® so that you know exactly what to expect.
How Do BOTOX® Cosmetic & Dysport® Injectables Work?
Throughout your life, you perform different facial expressions. You smile, you frown, you cry, and you squint your eyes. In other words, you show emotion. However, each time you perform these actions, you contract your facial muscles. When your skin has good flexibility, it can keep up with those contractions; however, as you get older and the flexibility is lost, lines begin forming.
A solution to this is to stop the muscles from contracting. In this case, neuromodulators such as botulinum toxin A (BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport®) can intercept the movement. In return, it will relax the muscles and prevent them from contracting. With time, the skin will be smoother, and the appearance of wrinkles will be reduced.
How Are BOTOX® Cosmetic & Dysport® Different?
BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® both have a botulinum toxin A base and are used to temporarily paralyze underlying muscles and reduce dynamic wrinkles. As the skin relaxes, the top layer of your skin will become much smoother.
That being said, while these injectables have the same main ingredient, they contain different amounts of trace protein. They have a different molecular weight, with more units of Dysport® required in a single treatment. Still, the spreading ability is also better with Dysport®.
With Dysport®, some people see results in as little as 48 hours. With BOTOX® Cosmetic, it takes up to one week. However, Dysport® is removed faster from the organism for the same reason. As a result, while Dysport® may last for up to five months, BOTOX® Cosmetic can last up to six months before needing a touch-up treatment.
The effect is similar with both options, which is why the choice is only a matter of preference. For example, if you haven’t received the results you wanted with BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport® is given as an alternative.
What Can You Expect After the Injections?
When it comes to using BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport®, some side effects are to be expected. These can happen with any type of injection and should resolve shortly, without any issues. Most patients no longer notice any symptoms after two weeks at most. While you have to avoid direct sunlight or putting pressure on the area, you should be able to return to your daily life and routine right after the procedure.
With both BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®, you can expect a bit of pain or tenderness, along with bruising and inflammation, in the treatment area. Redness and swelling can happen with both, although it is less prominent in Dysport® due to the solution’s concentration.
Most patients begin to notice the first results within a few days, but for the full effect, it might take a few weeks. BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are not dermal fillers, which is why they will not add any volume to the skin. This is why many people prefer them because they offer a more natural effect.
